Ranting over the Dead

I need to rant.

If you have been on Facebook recently, or have read the newspapers the past 3-4 days ago, you may have seen the article and news feed regarding a teenager named Alvis Kong.

The story goes that Alvis Kong is a 22 year old student from Kuala Lumpur that after being together with his girlfriend of 4 months, was dumped by her. Unable to handle the breakup, he then commited suicide by jumping off his apartment building.

What has made this news particularly sensational among our local citizens and youngsters is that pior to his jump, he had been on Facebook leaving vague statuses stating his love for his family members, writing notes about his girlfriend, and, 45 minutes before his jump, stating "only 45 minutes left to go. What else should I do?"

After his death, people also found that he had taken a photograph of himself in tears.

Now, a death is always a sad thing. It means the loss of a family member that is precious to the parents who raised them, to the siblings who loved them. And ordinarily, a news like this i would just choose to ignore and not comment on this Alvis's choice of life.

But what irritates me to no end is the amount of attention his death is getting especially from teenagers all around Malaysia.

Alvis Kong "IN MEMORY OF" pages have been popping up all over Facebook, and within a short week, achieved a fan count of 32ooo people or more. And the other fan pages are achieving fans of 18000 and above.

Youtube has had videos of Alvis and his EX being photographed together, apparently to showcase how loving they were. This is generally accompanied by touching music and cheesy subtitles about love.

Now im going to say what i think is obvious.

MOST OF THE PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY JOIN THESE PAGES ARE SHALLOW PEOPLE WITH SAPPY IDEAS OF LOVE.

If you have read the comments left on the pages, a majority of them come from females. And you know what the most COMMON thing they all say first?

"Awww he so HANDSOME, such a pity he died. I adore your dedication to love, and hope you find peace in the afterlife with an angel more suitable for you"

These are the comments generally left by the females, with one variation or another.

How shallow are most of you girls huh????

Its a pity he's HANDSOME, and u admire his dedication? Omg! Dedication to love is not only loving someone, its also being able to handle the pain of losing the one you love if it means she gets to be happy. Killing yourself is selfish, not only because you think it wipes the pain of breaking up, but also because you do not care for the pain of your family members. ALSO, killing yourself leaves a SCAR on the girl you so called love.

You get tens of thousands of fans going gaga over this "couple"s supposed great love, when really all i see is a couple of teenagers *no different that the millions in this world* self posing in front of mirrors in fashionable clothes just so that they can look good. Real touching pictures are those with a genuine smile, a proper embrace, a fun moment together. Not a photograph of posing in front of your cellphone camera.

If this was some ugly guy who did the same thing, im sure that he wouldnt get the same amount of hype and publicity as Alvis did. And you know what? Im sure that they will be an equal amount of people saying the ugly guy was stupid, that he got played by a girl, and that he should have just moved on. But nooooo, you dont see that with Alvis yea? Why? Because he is HANDSOME.

A person is DEAD. Move on you stupid legion of fawning hormonal fans. You want to wish people good luck or give advice, give it to the living. Quit with the sappy shit youtube vids, the stupid fan pages that will be irrelevant in another weeks time.
